Things That Go Bump in the Night

We both woke up when we heard the crash.  Was that glass?  Was it a window?  Was it the neighbor?

Actually, neither of us spoke, or even knew the other one was awake.  It was about 1AM, maybe 2AM.  Neither of us even moved.  We were both listening.  I thought that maybe someone had broken in, but there were no other sounds.  Then, moments later there were footsteps upstairs.  Whew.  It was probably just the neighbor.  The baby is about a year old so it's not unusual to hear some noises at night.

But we were wrong.

When we got up this morning, this is what we saw...

Apparently, the paper towel/spice rack jumped off the wall in the middle of the night.  On its way down it also took one of my prep bowls with it.  The paper towel/spice rack was a gift from the owner of the apartment when we moved in, but apparently the nail she used to affix it to the wall wasn't quite secure enough.

And the prep bowl was one of a set of three that my mom had given us and I used all the time and shouldn't have even been there because I should have washed it yesterday or at least moved it to the dirty dishes pile.  One more reason to go with Carlos's method of cleaning, "wash as you cook" (my preferred method is "pile everything next to the sink and wash it tomorrow morning".

Sigh.  Time to clean up.
